Red Vermouth Cocktails: London Americano

London Americano No.2 Camille’s Red Vermouth Campari quality soda.jpg

The name Americano is said to come from US tourists seeking ‘la dolce vita’ in Italy in the 1900s. It was born out of the Milano-Torino, a mix of Milan Campari & Turin vermouth, which with the addition of soda created the Americano. It is related to the Negroni, which was invented when Count Negroni asked his barmen to fortify his Americano with gin to honour London.

For those, who find Negronis too strong, our London Americano is a refreshingly alternative way to honour the great city. Ours goes light on the Campari to balance the nuanced flavours of the vermouth.

Ingredients

·         3 parts London Vermouth Company No.2 Camille’s Red

·         1 part Campari

·         4 parts soda

The Americano was a favourite of James Bond. As he says ‘the cheapest way to improve a drink is to use expensive soda’, so you might want to try using  super sophisticated Double Dutch Drinks soda made by Dutch twins Raissa & Joyce De Haas.

·         (blood) orange slice.

Method

Take a pre-chilled a lo-ball & fill with ice;

Pour No.2 Camille’s Red vermouth then Campari stir & top with soda then garnish with a (blood) orange slice.
