Amber Vermouth Cocktail: Amber Spritz

Amber Vermouth Cocktail Amber Spritz.jpg

Our Amber Spritz is based on the Basta Poco from top Belgian cocktail bar BelRoy's Bijou. It is a simple, three-ingredient cocktail created for a trattoria of the same name as a less bitter alternative to the Aperol Spritz, while retaining a kick.

Their version originally used prosecco, but now is served with champagne. Our Amber Spritz is a crowd pleaser with prosecco but can be upscaled for a special occasion with a classy English sparkler to bring it closer to home.

Ingredients

·         50ml London Vermouth Company No.1 Amber Limon

·         50ml Ginger Ale

Fever tree ginger ale is the most readily available, but if you can find it do try the more exotic The London Essence Co.'s Delicate Ginger Ale, made with ginger root, ginger oil, stevia and distilled aniseed essence delivering gently spicy notes of liquorice, ginger and lemon fennel. Another alternative is the light Merchant Heart’s Japanese style Ginger ale.

·         50ml Sparkling wine

For a top supermarket Prosseco, check out Aldi’s superiore DOCG with its tastes of classic pear and apricot from a family-run vineyard just outside Venice, where the grapes are handpicked and grown free from pesticides and herbicides. For something closer to home, find Chapel Down sparkling bacchus, made using the traditional Prosecco method giving aromas of pineapple, grapefruit and elderflower with a crisp and refreshing texture. To splash out, try Louis Pommery England Brut made by the afore mentioned champagne house with its hints of green apple, citrus fruits and honeyed stone fruits, with a fresh, mineral finish.

·         Twist Of Orange Peel

Method

Add all the ingredients over a few big ice cubes into a large burgundy glass. Garnish by twisting a piece of orange peel to release oils into the drink.
